Meet the Visionary

Becky Wood Anderson – Founder/CEO

Lawyer, painter, mother of 4 girls, arts instructor, entrepreneur, and Founder of Say Yes to Art and the company behind it, Brush of Genius, LLC, Becky Wood Anderson is a Renaissance woman for the 21st century. When her oldest daughter entered the 1st grade, Becky discovered there was no art teacher in the school. Instead, the school had a volunteer “art parent program” which was more of a crafts program than a real art program since most parents were not artists and did not know how to teach real art. So Becky, a skilled watercolorist, launched a watercolor program in her daughters’ school and taught art using a very simple step-by-step process which led all students to becoming true artists. By teaching watercolor painting to each daughter’s class in each grade, she brought a brush of genius to the lives of hundreds of students. Kids not only learned how to draw and paint, but they also finished the class with a frame-worthy masterpiece. Parents and teachers were astounded by the beautiful pieces created by such young students. Becky noticed that art also had the effect of expanding children in their minds and character in ways she never imagined. She saw how this style of artistic learning could emphasize core values like deferred gratification, positive self-awareness, pushing outside the comfort zone, learning to think from the “macro” to the “micro” planning a vision and executing it and so much more. She also witnessed the evolution of people’s talents, character, personality, and spirit in the process.

When her youngest twin daughters left grade school, Becky channeled her years of teaching art into creating a dynamic DVD-based art program, her goal being to bring art to as many lives as possible. Starting with the Watercolor Whirligig art DVD kit, Say Yes to Art now shares the adventure of artistic learning with kids all over the world—and makes it easy and fun for even non-artistic parents, group leaders, and teachers to instruct a watercolor class, plus become artists themselves in the process.
